Revolutionizing digital payments in Tanzania

Pay by Phone is Vodacom’s Merchant payments solution launched In November 2016 to digitize payments in the Tanzania retail Ecosystem and enable merchants and retailers collect payments seamlessly while helping customers to avoid the risks and burdens of carrying cash. In March 2017 Vodacom enhanced the service by launching a new M-Pesa App which amongst other benefits, supports QR-code payments which simplifies the payment experience further by eliminating the need to type in till numbers at retail touch points. QR codes is new in mobile money platforms in Tanzania, geared to enable simplicity and sophistication of M-Pesa transactions.

Pay by phone has enabled customers of all networks and banks to achieve payments easier, security compared to cash that is costly and risky which is why we say M-Pesa home of digital payments since customers from all networks and banks have been enabled to pay merchants from their Lipa number. Paying with your phone allows you to get the following benefits

How to pay MERCHANTS?

HOW TO PAY MERCHANTS with M-Pesa Lipa Number : VODACOM CUSTOMERS:
Using USSD

  • 1. Dial *150*00#
  • 2. Select Pay by phone
  • 3. Enter Lipa number
  • 4. Enter amount in Tshs
  • 5. Enter M-Pesa pin
  • 6. You will receive an SMS to confirm the transaction.

Using M-Pesa APP

  • 1. Launch M-Pesa app and tap on the QR icon top right
  • 2. Scan the QR code that is on the table talker/sticker
  • 3. Enter amount followed by pin to complete transaction

  • 1. Dial *150*01#
  • 2. Select send money
  • 3. Select to other networks
  • 4. Select M-Pesa
  • 5. Enter Lipa number(seven digits)

FAQ's

How much will the customer charge for Pay for your Phone?

Payment Fees for M-Money is currently 0.5% of the amount you pay in payment of Tshs 100 to M1.5, Tshs 7500 for M1.5-M2 and Tshs 8000 for Over M2 transactions.

How will you get customer service support?

For billing support for your phone, call 0746500001/100/101 anytime.

Will the customer pay more for their bills will be able to get back the extra amount?

No. Vodacom advises, the customer and the seller agree to either add the product or the seller to repay the excess amount in cash. Client will be charged a low cost based on what they have paid.

How can I help a customer who has paid in wrong number?

Advise the customer to call Vodacom customer service (100) for further assistance.

How long does Payment Transaction for your Phone take?

These transactions are completed automatically. You and every customer will receive SMS confirming each transaction.

What should I do if I do not receive a timely SMS?

Vodacom will let you know if there is any problem. And if you and the customer have not received an SMS, call 0746500001/100/101 for more help.

What will happen if Pay my number is stolen?

If your LIPA number is stolen, you will get a new SIMcard and then fill out your LIPA return form at all Vodacom stores in Tanzania. Your number and your money will stay safe

How Can I Make Money From My Payment Sales Account?

Dial * 150 * 00 #, then follow the information above.

Can I change the payment receipt number to the M-Money I use to receive payments?

Yes, you can change the payment receipt number. By focusing on the security of our clients' money. Pay a new number if the application is made by the business owner only.

Will the customer be able to cancel your completed Payment Transaction?

No customer will not cancel. Vodacom can reinstate this transaction if it receives requests from a merchant only.

Can You Own Pay More Than One Number?
