What is M-Pesa self-reversal?
This is a service which allows M-Pesa customers to hold/reverse money which has been transferred /received within 2 hours by mistake.

What is the procedure?

There are 2 procedures:

1.A sender can reverse the wrong transaction as per below:

You will dial *150*00#>My account (Self Service)>self-reversal>Hold Transaction (wrong send)>Enter the M-Pesa receipt number to be reversed / choose from three last transactions then reverse transaction. After completing the procedures funds will be reversed and you will be notified via SMS.

2.Can I as a receiver also initiate reversal if i receive wrong money from a sender?

Yes, You will dial *150*00#>My account(Self Service)>Slf-reversal>Reverse Transaction (wrongly received fund)>Enter the M- Pesa receipt number / choose from three last transactions to be reversed then reverse transaction. After completing these procedures funds will be reversed and you will be notified via SMS.

Who can initiate the reversal?

A sender or receiver can reverse transactions as per the above procedures. Please note that you must use the same number you sent or received wrong funds with.

Are there charges for this service?
Yes, as a sender you will be charged Tsh 60 from your M-Pesa account

Is there a time limit for M-Pesa reversals?
Yes, as a sender you will be able to initiate reversal within 2 hours from when the transaction was successfully sent while as a receiver you can initiate a reversal at any time.

How long does it take for money to be completely reversed?
You will receive reversed funds within 2 hours of performing a reversal for all transactions less than 100,000 while transactions above 100,000 will take a maximum of 72 hours.

What happens the receiver will have used some or all of the amount when the reversal is done?
Reversal initiation will not be successful, you will receive a notification to inform you this.
